Matakana Thoroughbreds take pride in nurturing well conformed New Zealand Bred Thoroughbreds through to the New Zealand Bloodstock's Yearling Sales at Karaka and offering them for sale in their optimum condition.

Matakana Thoroughbreds is based at the stunning equestrian property, Matakana Country Park on Leigh Rd, Matakana, about an hour north of Auckland. This property offers 50 acres of flat grazing, trails, 2x sand arenas, 14m round yard and 440m training track. Adjacent to Matakana Country Park we have 120 acres of hills where our young horses prosper and develop their bodies over winter. We believe we have the recipe to develop horses strong and willing to run!

Matakana Thoroughbreds retained two 2006 born fillies by St. Petersburg and Gold Mine, and they are both available for sale or lease by negotiation. The Gold Minex Buzkashi filly is in training with Karen Zimmerman in Otaki and we are excited about the ability she is showing. We have a 3rd 2006 filly by Brilliance x Military Fun who has been started by Karen Zimmerman and is currently spelling until February when she will go back to Karen. 10% Race Syndicate lease shares will be available shortly. Matakana Thoroughbreds had a succesful yearling sale with all 3 of our stunning colts SOLD Karaka Festival Sale in February 2009, two of whom were born on our property. Matakana Thoroughbreds  have an impressive colt foal by CHIANTI x Uma (by Sudurka) on the ground currently who will be heading to yearling sales 2010. This boy has amazing muscle structure already and will be worth watching. In addition we will present two colts we purchased as weanlings.
